Bar-Hebraeus, Gregorius

(1226-86)
   Syrian scholar of Jewish origin. He was appointed Archbishop of Mesopotamia and Persia in 1252. He wrote a Syriac grammar, commentaries on the Bible and Aristotle, and a history of the world.
